Visions & Views from a Visiting Voyeur

Loud mouth insight to the nothing and nowhere. Deep thoughts and questions that have no where else to go...

So what should I say first. Well shocker of the day goes to this story. It now appears that the "adult film and entertainment" industry has hit hard times. According to a report from MSNBC.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28549145/): a founder of one adult magazine and another founder of immature adult exhibitionist dvds now thinks the government should give them 5 billion dollars. According to the article "the economy has made America's appetite for sex go limp." This has caused their sales to plummet and they worry that it could put some people in the industry out of work and on hard times... no pun intended. These entrepreneurs of adult entertainment stress that just like the big 3 auto companies, they have employees to pay who have families to feed.

Okay so before you go out to help these folks in their mission please take a moment and think about this. This industry promotes sexual addiction, demeaning of females, promotion of gender bias roles and views, and normally illegal activities. Now I know some of you are screaming your mantra that you can't legislate morality. Bull pooh! What are rules and laws but what society sees and deems as right vs. wrong. What society values as good and justice is how laws and rules are made. The only way to not factor morality into the equation would be to live in a lawless state. I don't think if anyone really thought about it would truly want to do that.

Mr./Mrs./Miss/Ms. Adult Entertainment Industry worker,

I am sorry because of hard economic times you will be out of a job. Honestly I would never want to see a person suffer. However, I really don't think bailing the corporations that provide you jobs or even the automakers will be as beneficial as they say it will. It will bring on more debt and most of the money will never see your pockets. Perhaps an education and retraining stimulus package for the workers would be more beneficial.

Oh well.

Ta ta for now.

Putting ones personal thoughts aside about porn, why shouldn´t that industy get help? If the autoindustry gets help, they should too.
One could say that cars help the criminals to do their job by helping them escape from for example bankrobbery. Therefor it helps crimes.

Cars do also pollute the world and they put more carbondioxid in the air, slowley helping the world getting warmer and perhaps help it to an end as we know it.

I hope You understand what I mean by this.
Christer.

I do see what you are saying. Besides my personal and educated views, a bailout actually goes against America's capitalist nature. I am not a big capitalist and I am not a big socialist etc... okay so I do tend to lean more toward socialism. But if America, who proclaims to be a working capitalist nation, bails out certain companies because they say they are struggling then this goes against capitalism. If they are viable companies they will survive in the views capitalism. Not all of the automakers are receiving the bailout. Some are doing fine. New ones are even growing. So in reality the bailout isn't actually assisting the industry across the board but more assisting corporations who no longer are able to compete (another capitalism thing) as well in their market. American consumers have become more tight with their pockets and look more decisively at making purchases. But is America the only place they sell their products?

In the adult entertainment industry I don't see Big Boy Hugh Hefner saying that he is having problems. And though cars in the wrong hands can cause accidents or be used in situations that are wrong, the adult entertainment industry psychologically and emotionally hurts both its consumers and employees. Or even more devastating is that it accentuates some of their underlying problems and feeds the abuse and mental anguish. But even outside of that I come back to the capitalist nation America is supposed to be. The problems aren't completely with the industries or companies themselves but something bigger.

I just think that feeding the broken problem won't help keep the dam from breaking. The dam can only be strapped with a bandaid for so many times before the dam has to be torn down and redone. Bailing them out won't give them time to figure out how to bandaid it again so that it will be fixed because they don't want to change the system (rebuild the dam).

I do love your comments though. Stirs my brain. And I know it is valid.

There were a couple stories about Larry Flynt and the porn industry that came out recently: http://www.covenanteyes.com/blog/2009/01/08/porn-bailouts-and-larry-flynt/

I think the whole thing is a ridiculous media stunt.

Who is the better cook?
